Eighty protestants, catholics and buddhists walked for peace in Maebashi City , Gunma ken, last August 22, 2010 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Many catholic priests, deacons, sisters and lay from different countries joined this year’s peace walk. The Filipinos of Maebashi Catholic Church were dressed in self-designed peace T-shirts and carried multi-colored peace banners in various languages. They assembled at Michael’s Protestant Church and proceeded towards Maebashi City Garden .Two buddhists monks, a protestant bishop , a catholic priest and sister held a big peace streamer on the front line. As they passed Maebashi Capitol Building, the buddhist monks said aloud some peace “mantras”. Alternately, the Filipinos sang verses of “Give Peace A Chance”in English .On the microphone, they called for a “nuclear-free” world remembering Japan’s Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing 65 years ago. Finally, the group walked back to St. Michael’s Church, shared some prayers with the Filipino group sang four more English peace songs before they dispersed. Though different in religions, nationalities and languages, surely, everybody carried home that evening the joy of being “ONE” and of trying to be ” PEACEMAKERS” . |
