Homily for April Memorial Mass for the Deceased Clergy of the Diocese
|April Memorial Mass for the deceased clergy|
We celebrate this Memorial Mass for two Fathers today.
Fr.Roland PIERRE passed away on April 17, 2014. The funeral mass was observed at Urawa church on April 22. Fr.Athanasius Mitsugu NOGAMI passed away on April 22, 2014. The funeral mass was observed on April 29. Their passing was just one year ago. I officiated at the funeral mass for Fr.Roland. Fr.Chegaray, the provincial of Paris Foreign Missions Society, gave homily. So I would like to say a word about Fr.Roland today. Here is a magazine called “Fukuin to Syakai”. An article written by Fr.Roland, titled
“The bright ‘aging’ in the Bible”, was published in the August 2009 issue, vol. 245. Fr.Roland was born on May 26, 1926. This article was the edited works of his lecture when he was 83 years old. Father told us about the hope toward “the new heavens and the new earth”. The term “the new heavens and the new earth” appears in Isaiah and Revelation and it indicates the accomplished world of God’s creation. Fr.Roland says that instead of hoping for a long life, we should strive to live each day to the fullest. We should spend every day thankfully with a state of mind that “Every Day is a Good Day”.
Today’s Gospel from Chapter 6 of John is a story of miracle- “Five loaves and two fish”. My pontifical coat of arms was taken from this story. When we share a little blessing thankfully with everyone, the blessing increases and is passed along. The Eucharist, the body of Christ, is such blessing.
Let us pray that we receive Communion in an appropriate manner and express God’s love to many people.
